Musimbi Kanyoro is a Kenyan human rights advocate and the current CEO of The Global Fund for Women. Kanyoro stands as an international leader in the fight for health, education, and rights of women, girls, minorities, and all marginalized people.

Dr. Kanyoro has made significant advancements throughout her career. She became the first non-white General Secretary or CEO of the World Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) after over one hundred and fifty years of the organization’s existence. Under her leadership, the organization expanded its boundaries, gaining membership in China, Eastern Europe, Ethiopia and many former Socialist and Communist countries.

Her academic background has brought her to many parts of the world. After earning her bachelor ’s degree from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, she went on to pursue a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Texas, Austin. At the San Francisco Theological Seminary, she received a Doctorate in Feminist Theology. She was also a scholar of Hebrew and the Old Testament at Harvard University.

Dr. Kanyoro currently serves on the board of the UN Women Civil Society, CHANGE, Aspen Leaders Council, and the CARE. “As President and CEO of the Global Fund for Women, the largest publicly supported grant making foundation that advances human rights by investing in women-led organizations that use Global Fund grants to promote women ’s human rights.” – www.globalfundforwomen.org
